Vintage Conditions

The resilience of the Tumblong Hills vineyard was on show in 2019; a mostly hot and dry vintage across the continent. Overall fruit yield was down, thus harvest 7 to 10-days earlier than average, though through prudent water and canopy management, grape quality was outstanding. Sugar levels were moderate, while acid and pH levels were unexpectedly good. Generally, vintage 2019 at Tumblong Hills delivered wines with bright fruit power, moderate alcohol levels and fresh integrated fruit acid profiles.

Winemaking Notes

A vintage 2019 champion, white variety Fiano showed it can stand up to the elements and produce a beautifully fresh and crisp style of wine. Handpicked on 28 February 2019, the fruit was whole bunch pressed to stainless steel and settled for 48 hours, racked clean and fermented to dryness by cultured yeast. Some lees ageing was encouraged for textural complexity.

Tasting notes

Bright lemon yellow in colour. Aromas of citrus, ginger and jasmine flowers. Flavoursome on the palate, the wine shows zingy citrus and subtle lees-ageing support.

Food pairing notes

Hails from a region that is coastal bound, it makes sense it is a wine that works well with seafood – baked fish, shellfish, etc. It’s perfect with vegetarian pasta dishes too, as the acidity in the wine offsets the richness of cream-based sauces and complements the acidity of tomato-based recipes.
