Vintage Conditions

Average winter rainfall and a cool spring had bud burst occurring 2 weeks later than usual. The vineyard fortunately avoided damage by threatening late spring frosts. The growing season was oddly dry considering what preceded with some higher than average temperatures in December/January. Ripening conditions were ideal, though a later than normal harvest was experienced mainly due to the late start in spring. Certainly, a better than average vintage.

Winemaking Notes

Handpicked in the early hours of 28 February and the fruit kept cool till processing at the winery. 3-days cold maceration of the fruit in stainless steel with 10% whole fruit. Gentle pump-over and rack-and-return procedures encouraged ideal natural flavour and gentle tannin extraction. 20% of volume aged in 2-year old oak barriques for 8-months.
